Abstract
Letters, receipts, news clippings, and photographs regarding river traffic on the Little Kanawha River. Locks and dams were
constructed on this river in 1868-1974 to enable the oil industry to transport equipment and crude oil from the Burning Springs
oil field to Parkersburg. The river then became for the next half century the main artery of transportation for this region,
at one time conveying passengers and freight as far upstream as Burnsville.
