Biographical / Historical
Martha Von Schilling was born in Hampton, Virginia in 1912 to Martha Howard and Leopold Marshall Von Schilling. In 1925, she was sent to Farmville, Virginia to attend the training school at State Teachers College, where her aunt Ilma Von Schilling was on the faculty, and later principal. After graduating from the training school in 1928, she enrolled as a student at State Teachers College, earning her diploma in 1932. While a student, Martha Von Schilling was involved in many student organizations, including membership in Alpha Phi Sigma, Beta Pi Theta, Zeta Tau, Ruffner Literary Society, Le Cercle Francais, El Circulo Espanol, YWCA, and the Athletic Association.
Scope and Contents
This collection, which originated with Martha Von Schilling during her time as a student at the training school and State Teachers College, consists of a training school yearbook, certificates, scrapbook pages, a diploma, and a photograph.
