Historical Information
Scott County was named for Winfield Scott, a native of Virginia, in recognition of his victories during the War of 1812. It was formed from Lee, Russell, and Washington Counties in 1814.
Scope and Content
Scott County (Va.) Sheriff's Bond, 1839 Mar. 12. Isaac C. Anderson and nine co-signers promise to pay the Governor of Virginia thirty thousand dollars to secure Anderson's appointment as Scott County Sheriff, with the duty to collect, account for, and pay the taxes and militia fines imposed by law in Scott County.
