Scope and Contents

This collection includes two letters signed by Calhoun when he was the United States' Secretary of War, which are dated September 11, 1818 and August 9, 1820; a letter dated Aug. 24, 1831 to Francis W. Pickens, and a letter dated June 20, 1834 to Col. Andrew Pickens. The first letter is to the Department of War about rations and assigning someone to record the number of rations daily used. The second letter to the Department of War is informing 'Sir' that he has been appointed by the President of the United States to meet with the Creek Nation. Calhoun writes to Francis Pickens about the 1832 presidential election. The letter to Andrew Pickens is about accounts, the administration, and his journey home.
