Scope and Contents

Contains miscellaneous papers, 23 documents, photocopies from microfilm, a medical journal dated 1765, and an account book. Includes items of Col. William Fleming and the Fleming family, including the diaries of Col. Fleming, 1782-1790, with accounts of his trips to Kentucky; Fleming's journal of the first Kentucky convention, 1784-1785, of which he was chairman; c.250 letters to and from Fleming and his family about business, Kentucky land claims, and family affairs; commissions, wills, land surveys, and other legal papers.

The medical journal in this collection is housed in Oversize Drawer 26. A user-copy is housed on the shelf with the other materials.

The first letter in the file is from David Robinson to William Fleming about his company and other news from Fort Preston. Most of the letters in this file are from Annie Christian to Anne Fleming. Christian addressses Fleming as 'my dear sister.' Christian writes about visiting, her daughter Prissy, and Fleming's son Leney. Typescripts are included of all of the letters.

This file includes letters from Anne Christian to Anne Fleming about her health, fear of Indians, and she asks for more starch. Included is a letter from Stephen Trigg to Anne Fleming about her mother. There is a letter to William Fleming about military warrants that Fleming and Christian, his brother in law, received. Robert Montgomery writes to William Fleming expressing his happiness about Fleming's improved health. Many of the letters written to Fleming concern military stationing.
