Ruth Ann Chitwood donated the Papers in 2001 as part of the W. R. Chitwood Collection.

Biographical Information

E. H. Bailey, a native of Pennsylvania, was born on 12 October 1834. He moved to Wytheville before the Civil War and married Elizabeth C. LaHue (1839-1905). Bailey was a watchmaker and jeweler who lived on Tazewell Street. He and his wife had two children, David C. Bailey and Emma Lula Bailey who married Estell C. Lindamood. Bailey died on 24 July 1905 and is buried with his wife in East End Cemetery in Wytheville, Virginia.

Scope and Content

This collection consists a deed between Robert C. Kent, commissioner, and E. H. Bailey dated 2 February 1866. Also included is an agreement dated 4 July 1874 between William Alexander Stuart and E. H. Bailey regarding sale of land on Tazewell Street. Another agreement dated 13 January 1880 between William Alexander Stuart and Ellen B. Stuart and Elizabeth C. Bailey concludes the Papers.
