Abstract
"Sketch History of Captain B. F. Bentons Company (K Co., 1st Texas Infantry)" is a first hand account of the deeds and actions of the Confederate Army's K Company, 1st Texas Infantry during the Civil War. Written by O. T. Hanks, a member of K Company, the history discusses the formation of the company in July 1861 and gives detailed accounts of several battles the company participated in throughout the war. The document concludes with an account of the K Co.'s final battle and surrender to Federal troops on April 10, 1865, near Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Orlando Thacker Hanks (1844-1926) served with the Confederate Army's Co. K (Captain B. F. Benton's Co.), 1st Texas Infantry during the Civil War. He Married Susan Pernella Thacker on November 24, 1872.

Scope and Content

This collection contains a photocopy of Orlando T. Hanks' 72-page dairy and history of the activities of the Confederate Army's K Co., 1st Texas Infantry during the Civil War.
