Historical Note
Norfolk & Western Railway started in 1881 and operated until 1997 when it merged with Southern Railway to become Norfolk Southern Railway. Norfolk & Western was headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia.
Scope and Content
Norfolk & Western Railway Steam Locomotive Roster, September 1, 1978, contains one bound roster of steam locomotive used by Norfolk & Western Railroad and Norfolk & Wester Railway from 1881 through 1961. The roster lists information about the locomotive engines and their final dispositions. The roster also contains a copy of a letter from the author explaining some of the abbreviations used within the roster.
