Scope and Content

Unmarried schoolteacher in Perry, Illinois, in the mid-1800s. Elvish writes eloquently of her devotion to God, and berates herself for not being a better person or more worthy of God's love. Among the topics Elvish writes about are her sisters, a friend's leaving for Persia, and her mother's earlier death.
