Scope and Content

Union soldier in the Civil War, writing August 17, 1864, from Louisville, Kentucky, to a friend. Describes conditions at the Confederate prison in Danville, Virginia, where he was recently held as a prisoner of war. Notes the behavior of the guards and the quality of the food.
