This collection was given to the Library by Virginia (Mrs. Erskine) Caldwell of Scottsdale, Arizona, on February 3, 1989.
Scope and Content Information
Printed material, 1977-1988, ca. 95 items, about Erskine Caldwell's life and works comprises this collection. The newspaper clippings contain numerous obituaries and other memorials (April 1987) and book reviews for his autobiography With All My Might (1987) as well as sketches and interviews. Subjects mentioned include the University of Georgia Library Special Collections exhibit of his personal editions (1977), the Southern Oregon State College Library reception (1983), his election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1984), being writer-in-residence at the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library in Fitzgerald, Georgia (1985), a movie about Margaret Bourke-White (1987-1988), and Caldwell's relationship with his home state Georgia during the years that followed Tobacco Road . Miscellaneous printed material includes programs and news releases, and includes information on two productions of Tobacco Road (1982, 1984).
