Biographical / Historical

Etta June Haught Beckley was born June 7, 1906 in Burchfield, WV the daughter of the late James A. and Mary Jane Sole Haught. She was a minister's wife and worked as a schoolteacher for forty-three years in Wetzel, Harrison and Tyler Counties. She began teaching in one room schools and, among other subjects, taught drama and piano, mostly to grade school students. After her retirement from full-time teaching, she continued to give piano lessons at her home. She was a member of the WV Retired Teachers Association and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Etta died in 2007 at the age of 101.

Scope and Contents

Collection of booklets belonging to Etta Haught Beckley containing plays, poems, and dialogues for school children. Includes booklets for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other holidays, the end of school, and other themed plays and recitation exercises.
