Biographical / Historical

The West Virginia Agricultural College was established in 1867 as a land-grant university. Its name was changed the following year to West Virginia University. The Agricultural College of West Virginia University was established in 1895 as a separate college, and by 1912 it offered instruction, research by the Agricultural Experiment Station, and state services through agricultural extension work. In 1936, the College of Agriculture became the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics, and in 1987 it was renamed the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences. Gerald Heebink (1895-1956) was an extension dairyman in the college from 1935 to 1956.

Scope and Contents

Gerald Heebink (1895-1956) was an extension dairyman in the West Virginia University College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics from 1935 to 1956. Records are chiefly Heebink's subject files from 1940 to 1956 and consist primarily of addresses given by Heebink, pamphlets, letters, articles, and reference files. Topics covered include barns, dairy cows, coops, extension methods, feeds, land use planning, program planning, and silos. Also included are reports to the State Extension Dairymen and materials related to the American Dairy Science Association.
