Abstract
Papers pertaining to local history as recalled by residents of the Clinton District, Monongalia County, West Virginia. Includes: genealogies; lists of schools, teachers, students, churches, and community leaders (beginning with the first settlers, no date and incomplete); descriptions of agricultural practices, use of the Clinton grain mill, social events, and lifestyles. Also includes a research paper by Margaret Little, (n.d.), documenting the pig iron industry, ca. 1840-1858, in north and north central West Virginia, focusing on the Clinton furnace in Monongalia County and it's last owner, George Hardman (1854-1858); Wheeling is also mentioned in the narrative. The research paper is enhanced with three photographs of the Clinton furnace, charts, and illustrations.
