Abstract
The collection is comprised of photographs of architectural works designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh in Glasgow, Scotland. The photographs were taken by architectural historian William Bainter O'Neal in 1949 and feature the Glasgow School of Art, Hill House, Willow Tea Rooms, and Queen's Cross Church. The envelope that housed the images features diagrams and notes about the Glasgow School or Art presumably written by O'Neal.

Processing Information

The photographs were removed from the original envelope, and the envelope was preserved as it features diagrams and notes, presumably written by O'Neal. Photographs were sorted into folders by subject.


Biographical Note

Willam Bainter O'Neal was a renowned architectural historian and author. He was the consulting curator for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' 1992 exhibition "The Making of Virginia Architecture" and wrote the corresponding catalog, "Architecture in Virginia: An Official Guide to Four Centuries of Building in the Old Dominion". He was also a prominent collector of drawings, and authored several books, including "The Work of William Lawrence Bottomley In Richmond" and "Jefferson's Fine Arts Library".
