Biographical Note

Lavada Jeanette Perdue Hamlin was born to Jesse William and Lucy Kate Caldwell Perdue on March 17, 1921, in Blacksburg, Virginia. She married William Orville Hamlin on July 30, 1941, and they had a daughter, Ann H. Linden. Hamlin died on July 14, 2006, and is buried in Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg.

This collection contains newspapers, newspaper clippings, and publications relating to the American Civil War. There are multiple 20th century newspapers and newspaper clippings from the Washington Post, Richmond Times-Dispatch, and the Roanoke Times and World-News, among others. This collection also contains multiple 20th century publications about the Civil War, such as National Geographic, The Sportslog-Pictorial, and several pieces by James W. Silver. Finally, a July 4, 1973 press release relates to a speech given by State Senator John Dalton.
