George W. Shue was an American Civil War soldier from Wisconsin.

Scope and Content

This collection contains the diary of George W. Shue, an American Civil War soldier from Wisconsin. Shue wrote about the Battle of Malvern Hill, Second Battle of Fredericksburg, and Pittsburg Landing, as well as his daily life as a soldier and news about significant events like the capture of New Orleans. Of Malvern Hill, Shue wrote "Our brave boys was fighting hard and long still the enemy was obstinate and strong which let our Genls [generals] know they was holding their ground and if reinforced they would compell us to fall back."
