This collection contains a letter that was written in 1891 or later by Varina Anne Davis and sent to Mrs. M.A. Williams. In the letter Varina Davis is informing Mrs. Williams that she believes that it will impossible for her to tell her story in New York. Varina Davis states that the unlike in the South the subject of the American Civil Was has less importance in New York where people do not have constant reminders of the war. Varina Anne Davis was the youngest daughter of Jefferson Davis and a novelist.

Biographical Note

Varina Anne Davis was the youngest daughter of Jefferson Davis. She was born in Richmond on June 27, 1864, and lived until September 18, 1898. Following the death of her father she moved to New York where she worked as a novelist under the name Varina Anne Jefferson-Davis.
