Biographical Note

Edwin L. Garrison was likely born in 1844 or 1845. In 1862 he mustered in when he was 18 in Coventry, NY with the New York 8th Cavalry. He was wounded in Culpeper, VA in 1863. He mustered out in June 1865 at Alexandria, VA. After the American Civil War, he married Anna Elizabeth Hogg (1847-1932) on September 26, 1867, and they had ten children. Between 1867 and 1920, the family moved slowly across the country, living in Nebraska, Wyoming, Oregon. Garrison died in 1924 and is buried in Lane County, Oregon.

The Edwin L. Garrison Letter contains information pertaining to the 1864 Overland Campaign including an attack by Confederate General A. P. Hill. The letter is written to George J. Warner in New York on July 12, 1964. The orginal envelope and information on the 8th New York Cavalry is also included.
