Scope and Content

The collection consists of one letter from Fannie (Francis Ann?) Yonce to her mother Mrs. Alfred Yonce in Wytheville, Virginia and two letters from her brother, William B. Yonce (the first is addressed to Mrs. Yonce and the second is addressed to Fannie). The first letter, written by Fannie to Mrs. Yonce on September 22, 1851, contains family news, including word of the birth of Elizabeth and her husband William's first child, Ann Rice Hudson. While away at college in Ohio, William received the news of his father's death and responds to his mother's correspondence in the second letter of the collection, dated June 6, 1854. On June 21, 1860 William wrote the third letter of the collection to Fannie at college, concerning the commencement exercises at Roanoke College, whether or not he will make it to Wytheville for Fannie's graduation, and family news.
