Biographical Note

Mary Kelly was a resident of Bloomington, Indiana.

The unknown author of the letter was a Union soldier serving in Company G, 10th Iowa Infantry under Captain Paris Henderson during the American Civil War.

Scope and Content

A single letter written to Mary Kelly of Bloomington, Indiana by an unknown Union soldier serving with the 10th Iowa Infantry during the American Civil War. The letter describes an ambush committed by Confederate soldiers against the Union soldiers stationed at Bird's Point, Missouri. Letter describes how three men from his company died as a result of this skirmish. Author directs further correspondence to Bird's Point care of Captain Paris P. Henderson.
