The processing, arrangement, and description of the Harvey E. Shepherd Collection commenced and was completed in October 2003.
Biographical Note
Harvey Earl Shepherd, from Front Royal, Virginia, earned a degree in Chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1932. He served in the Corps of Cadets in Companies B and D. He was on the staff of the university publications The Virginia Tech , the VPI Skipper , and the Bugle yearbook. Shepherd was also a member of the Dramatic Club, the Shenandoah Valley Club, the Chemical Club, and Pi Delta Epsilon. Shepherd also did graduate work at VPI.
Scope and Content
The Harvey E. Shepherd scrapbook spans the years 1928 to 1932. The leather covered scrapbook with memory book and the VPI seal on the cover has 49 leaves. The scrapbook contains line drawings, correspondence, official notification and receipts, class tickets, images, programs, clippings, ticket stubs, invitations, Thanksgiving Dinner menu (1929), college blueprints, photographs, letterhead, Corps of Cadets materials, Virginia Baptist Student Convention program, YMCA membership card, and permission slips from Chemical Warfare ROTC Camp at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. Also included is a white belt with no buckle marked H.E. Shepherd Co. B.
Arrangement
The scrapbook is arranged loosely chronologically. The original order has been retained. Loose materials and a cloth belt have been put in separate folders.
