The processing and description of the Heterick Family Genealogy commenced and was completed in October, 2023.
Biographical / Historical
Robert Heterick was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1749, and was educated in Edinburgh. In 1784, he immigrated to the United States. On June 2, 1805, he married Mary Reade Cary (1780-1854), daughter of Edward Cary and Martha Stubbs. Robert and Mary Heterick would have eight children: Martha C. Heterick, Robert Mackey Heterick, John William Heterick, Alexander B. Heterick, Sarah Heterick, Elizabeth Holmes Heterick, Margaret J. Heterick, and Edward Francis Heterick. Robert Heterick served successively as principal of the York Academy (York, Pennsylvania); the Academy at Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Winchester Academy (Winchester, Virginia) from 1805 to 1822, when he took up farming near Hopewell Meeting House (Frederick County, Virginia.) Robert Heterick died in Frederick County in 1840. Many of the Hetericks' offspring remained in Frederick County. The family also had many ties to Rappahannock and Culpeper counties, Virginia.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains a copy of "A Record of the Family Heterick," compiled by Robert Cary Heterick of Blacksburg, Virginia. The unbound compilation includes genealogical charts and biographical sketches about the Heterick family, originating with Robert Heterick, who was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1749, and immigrated to the United States in 1784, with many descendants settling in Frederick, Culpeper, and Rappahannock counties, Virginia
