Abstract
S. Wellford Corbin of Virginia was a Lieutenant in the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War. The S. Wellford Corbin Letter was written, January 29, 1865, to Mrs. Emily S. Brune of Baltimore, Maryland, from Corbin while a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware. He thanks her for the Christmas gifts and mentions several mutual friends in Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia.

Biographical Note

S. Wellford Corbin of Virginia was a Lieutenant in the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War. He was captured by the Union forces in June 1864, during the Petersburg Assaults, and sent to the Officer's Prison at Fort Delaware, Delaware. He was paroled in February 1865. After the war, Corbin taught at the Virginia Military Institute and was a Virginia state senator.

Scope and Content

The S. Wellford Corbin Letter was written, January 29, 1865, to Mrs. Emily S. Brune of Baltimore, Maryland, from Corbin at Fort Delaware, while he was a as a Confederate prisoner of war at a Union prison during the American Civil War. He thanks her for the Christmas gifts and mentions several mutual friends in Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia.
