Source of Acquisition
This collection was donated by G. H. Nowlin Jr. to Virginia Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association November 21, 1952 and transferred to Newman Library prior to 1962.

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Greenwood H. Nowlin, Jr. Collection was completed in February 2011.
Biographical Note
Greenwood H. Nowlin Jr. attended Virginia Agriculture and Mechanical College (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) during the years of 1896-1899. Nowlin also played the mandolin and violin with a group of other young men that would perform at school dances for free. Nowlin was from Campbell County, Virginia.
Scope and Contents
The collection contains photographs, stereo views, and papers created or collected by Greenwood H. Nowlin, Jr. The photos are of Greenwood Nowlin Jr., Professor Robert G. Price, Nowlin's room, and two of the band that Nowlin was a part of that played at the dances from 1896-1898. The stereo views are of the Grand Colonade, Italy, Milan's Cathedral, Italy, St. Peter's, Rome, a ceremony of Washing the Saints' Feet in Jerusalem, Roosevelt's "Rough Riders" on the Yucatan, and numerous battle ships, from 1896-1989. The leather bound pad of paper contains some numbers and the names of two women. The receipts are from transactions with the school or materials need while at school.
