General

The Timothy and Marie O'Rourke Collection consists of materials related to the 53rd Annual William Minor Lile Moot Court Competition, held on April 18, 1981, at Old Cabell Hall.

The competition began in 1979 with 228 members of the class of 1981 and consisted of six total rounds. After making it through the fi¬rst three rounds during their second year, Marie Kaczynski '81 and Timothy O'Rourke '81, who are now married, advanced to the quarterfi¬nal round (fi¬rst semester of third year) and then semi¬final round (second semester of third year) before the ¬final competition at Old Cabell in April. O'Rourke and Kaczynski (for the petitioner) competed against A. Jeffrey Bird '81 and Stephanie Tsacoumis '81 (for the respondent). Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia at the time, adjudicated the last round with two other federal judges, Carl McGowan and Boyce F. Martin, Jr. Kaczynski and O'Rourke won the competition.
