Biographical Note

Claes Jansz Visscher was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver who lived from 1587 - 1652. Visscher eventually became a publisher and was succesful in this venture.

Scope and Content

Engraving of a group of men looking at King Solomon holding a music manuscript in a court setting, created by Claes Jansz Visscher circa 1610. The text "Osculetor me osculo oris sui" is a Latin translation of "Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth," from the biblical Song of Songs (Canticum canticorum), attributed to King Solomon (Choral Public Domain Library).
