Biographical Information

Francesco Basili (1867-1850) was an Italian composer originaly from Loreto, in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. He wrote both sacred and secular music, and he held positions both in secular institutions, such as the Milan Conservatory, and churches, including several years as maestro di capella of the Santuario della Santa Casa di Loreto (Alberto Pironti, "Francesco Basili").

Scope and Content

Handwritten manuscript of a setting of "Justus ut Palma," the Latin translation of Psalm 91:13 (Choral Public Domain Library, "Justus ut palma"). The setting is composed for three voices, soprano, alto, and bass, by Francesco Basili, an Italian composer of the late 18th - early 19th century. The setting was most likely used in a liturgical context as part of the Catholic Mass.
