Historical Note

George Mason University was founded in 1957 as a branch of the University of Virginia (UVA). Originally called George Mason College, it wouldn't become a full-fledged university until 1972 when it gained independence from UVA.

Scope and Content

Two copies of the Fairfax County Sun Echo newspaper George Mason College Dedication Edition, published on September 10, 1964. The newspaper highlights the building and opening of George Mason College, with ads and articles supporting the endeavour.
