Scope and Contents
Papers of Greenland Thompson Federer and family.
Box 1 includes:
1) General (3 letters to G.T. Federer, including letter from sister with words to "Battalion Hymn" dating from 1917 during World War I [WWI]; and pamphlet regarding history of Consolidation Coal Company in northern West Virginia, undated);
2) Artifact (cap with "Federer's Market" label, undated)
3) Photographs (6 items, including WWI Morgantown draftees group portrait; WWI portrait of G.T. Federer; railroad steam engine at Uniontown, Pennsylvania, ca. 1910-1920; and sternwheeler "Sam Barnum", ca. 1910-1920.
There are also two scrapbooks (loose in the box) created by Thora Federer, including an extensive collection of clippings and notes regarding infant care from 1921-1922, and clippings regarding music appreciation from 1930.
Box 2 includes two oversize items:
1) framed certificate of proficiency awarded to G.T. Federer by the Fairmont Normal School in 1915; and
2) photographic portrait of Morgantown Masonic Lodge members, ca. 1920-1930.
Addendum of 2011/01/18 includes G.T. Federer legislative records (ca. 1924-1926), group portrait photographs (ca. 1920-1930), and other material. (ca. 1920-1930; 5 in.)
West Virginia legislative records in this addendum include campaign cards; legislative manual; extensive set of handbills, pamphlets, and letters for lobbying a child labor amendment; correspondence, including letter by lawyer Frank Weaver lobbying coal interests in Monongalia County (folder 6); and sampling of Senate bills and the Senate Journal.
Group portrait photos, some including students, are shot by Grafton, West Virginia photographers, most with only Clara Beatrice Federer identified; there is one photo of the interior of a shoe store.
Other material includes one issue of "The West Virginia Woman Voter" (which includes an article on the child labor amendment), Volume 2, No. 10 (February 1925; folder 2); and two issues of "The Morgantown Post" (28 and 29 May 1924; in a flat storage box).
