Scope and Contents
This collection includes an important archive of letters, personal files, photos, and biographical information of esteemed painter Louise Herreshoff, her second husband Euchlin Reeves and their families. Euchlin Reeves was a graduate of Washington and Lee University (WLU) School of Law and is the namesake of WLU's Reeves Center, home of the Reeves Collection – a large and internationally important ceramics collection (1500 – present) and Louise Herreshoff's paintings, given by the couple to the university beginning in 1967.
Related Material
Transcriptions of correspondence, including translations of letters written in French, created by student workers in 2019 for a project for University Museums. Some PDFs and Word documents are electronically stored in Box - the years of 1892, 1896, 1897, and 1899. Special Collections cannot gaurentee complete accuracy of the transcriptions. Scans of the photo albums from Box 6 are also stored on Box. See James Whitehead Papers in WLU-RG-34 for information about museum displays of Herreshoff's works.
