Biographical / Historical

Irwin Taylor Sanders is a member of the Washington and Lee University class of 1929. He taught at the American College in Sofia, Bulgaria, and is now Professor Emeritus at Boston University.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence from Sanders to his parents during his years as a student at Washington and Lee University (1925-1929), including accounts of a 1928 cross-country trip with a friend. There is also correspondence from Sanders to his parents during his residence at American College in Sofia, Bulgaria, and later correspondence to his wife from Yugoslavia and while at several academic institutions, including Princeton Theological Seminary, Cornell University, and the University of Kentucky. Also includes a manuscript draft of The Bulgarian Peasant , a book Sanders wrote in the 1930's.
