The Henry T. Parrish Scrapbook of 1860 Presidential Election was purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in January 2017.

Biographical Note
Henry T. Parrish (1829-1913), was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and the University of Virginia. Before the United States Civil War, Parrish was a lawyer in Farmville, Virginia. He joined the 3rd Virginia Calvary in 1861 and was made Major in the 16th Virginia Infantry. When he was promoted to Colonel he was the aid to General Colston. He continued to practie law after the war in Appomattox, and also soerved on the board at VMI before moving to Roanoke, Virginia in 1888.

Scope and Content
The scrapbook in this collection contains newspaper clippings of the 1860 presidential campaigns. The primary focus of being on candidates John Bell, Stephen A. Douglas, and John Caleb Breckinridge. The scrapbook contains 44 pages of 90 newspaper articles and clippings. Abraham Lincoln is not included as he had little appeal to Southern voters.
