Biographical Note
Thomas Lilley (c. 1740-1798), served as a Captain in the Virginia Navy during the American Revolutionary War. Because of his service, Lilley was granted land in newly acquired Kentucky, thus explaining the records kept on distilled rum.

Scope and Content
The Thomas Lilley Distilling Account contains a record of rum distilling kept on a repurposed printed Virginia Militia inventory return. The records begin on November 10, 1820, run down one side and up the other, ending with October 21, 1821.
