The Gary Restaurant and Railroad Crossing photograph   was donated to Special Collections in 2005.

Processing Information

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Gary Restaurant and Railroad Crossing photograph   commenced and was completed in February 2010.

Historical Note

The restaurant featured in the photograph   was built in 1913, and is located in Gary Township, West Virginia. By 1920, the restaurant underwent extensive expansion.

Gary Township was a McDowell company-run town; it was the center of a booming steel and coal camp that operated until the 1970s. The town's prep plant was once the largest in the world.
