Biographical / Historical
Hope Irma Minter, a daughter of Silas R. and Irma Weiford Minter, was born in Montgomery County, Virginia, on September 3, 1918. She married Robert Warren Banks, Sr. (1916-1959) in Blacksburg (Montgomery County), Virginia, on March 21, 1942; the couple would have two children. Following the death of Robert Banks, she married Henry Peter Carl Vandenberg (1906-1974) on June 17, 1966. Hope Vandenberg worked as a graphics artist at Virginia Tech for 30 years. She took creative writing courses during this time and enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. Hope Minter Vandenberg died in Blacksburg, Virginia, on September 24, 1996, and was buried in the town's Westview Cemetery.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains (photocopied typescripts of) collected poetry and essays written by Hope Vandenberg of Blacksburg, Virginia. Housed in a loose leaf binder, the collection bears the title "Selected Works of Hope Vandenberg" and contains 21 numbered pages of Vandenberg's writings. Also included are a photograph of Vandenberg, a 1985 newspaper article about her, and her obituary.
