Biographical Note
Bernard John Henley (1909-1989) served as a reference librarian at the Richmond Public Library for more than 37 years. Following his retirement, Henley compiled indexes on various subjects, gleaned from newspapers held on microfilm by the library.
Scope and Content
This collection contains a handwritten index to articles about Virginia Polytechnic Institute, gleaned from Virginia newspapers held on microfilm by the Richmond Public Library. Containing approximately 275 pages, the index is arranged chronologically. Each entry contains the article title or subject matter, the newspaper title, date, page and column numbers. The bulk of the index covers the years 1906 to 1959, but the file also contains three pages of scattered entries covering the years 1875 to 1897.
