Building permits were first issued in the city of Alexandria in 1891 by the city engineer's office.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains building permits from the early 1890s to the 1940s. The permits specify the modification to be constructed, the cost, the builder, and frequently an architectural sketch or drawing of the proposed change.
