It was formed from Lunenburg previous hitCounty next hit in 1764. The previous hitcounty next hit court first met on 11 March 1765. The previous hitcounty next hit seat is Boydton.

Created in 1764. Numerous loose records prior to 1783 are missing. Volumes that record deeds, court orders,and wills exist

Scope and Content

Wills, 1765-1967, record the deceased's plan for how his or her estate was to be divided among his or her heirs following his or her death. Information commonly recorded in wills include the name of the deceased, also referred as the testator; names of heirs; a listing of real and personal property and how it was to be divided among the heirs; names of individuals who were to be the will's executors; the date will was written; and the date will was recorded at the court house. Wills recorded prior to April 1865 include names of enslaved people.

A donation to the Library of Virginia's Adopt Virginia's History program to conserve the Will of Alexander Boyd, 1801, found in this collection was made for Mrs. Robin Boyd Rawles by her son, Alexander Rawles, in honor of her forthcoming birthday, in the fall of 2016.
