Historical Information
Halifax County was named for George Montagu Dunk, second earl of Halifax, who was president of the Board of Trade from 1748 to 1761. It was formed from Lunenburg County in 1752.
Scope and Content
Halifax County (Va.) Deed of Trust, Philemon B. Carter and Wife to A. G. Walters, is dated 17 October 1860. In the deed, Carter grants A. G. Walters 450 acres lying in Halifax County in order to secure payments for his various debts. Also granted in the deed were Carter's livestock and one half of another tract containing 34 acres lying on Toby Creek upon which was situated a water grist mill and a circular saw mill.
