Scope and Content
Amherst County (Va.) Loose Free Negro Papers, 1844-1860, consist of rough drafts of free negro registrations and copies of Amherst County registrations that would have been handed out to the free person to carry to prove free status. One 1851 register is from Lynchburg and is marked through with the word "Removed."
These items were probably found loose in the Amherst County (Va.) Register of Free Negroes, 1822-1864.
