Scope and Content Information

Account book, 1810-1814, of William S. Davis, a physician, that records the accounts of individual customers. The accounts list charges and payments for visits to patients, medication, and other medical services such as extracting teeth, cauterizing cancerous tumours, assistance with pregnancies, and visits to ill slaves. Forms of payment include cash, credit, barter of items (cotton seed, whiskey, bacon) and labor (cutting wheat, work on chimney, knitting socks). Volume also records transactions related to Davis' estate.
