Historical Information

Accomack previous hit County  next hit was named for the Accomac Indians, who lived on the eastern Shore at the time of the first English settlement in Virginia. One of the original eight shires established in 1634, Accomac previous hit County  next hit (spelled without a k) became previous hit Northampton  next hit previous hit County  next hit in 1643. The present country was formed from previous hit Northampton  next hit about 1663. In 1940 the General Assembly adopted the previous hit county's  next hit present spelling.

Port of Entry Books, 1778-1793, consist of 2 volumes that record the arrival of ships to Virginia's Eastern Shore ports located in Accomack previous hit County  next hit. Each entry includes the date each ship arrived, it's name, the ship's most recent port of departure, the type of vessel (schooner, sloop, etc), the ship's size, where it was built, the name and citizenship of the ship's master and owners, and some entries include a brief description of it's cargo.
