These items came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court papers from Princess Anne County.
Historical Information
Princess Anne County was formed from Lower Norfolk County (now extinct) in 1691 and was incorporated into the city of Virginia Beach in 1963. The county was named for Anne, daughter of James II, who became queen of England. The county seat was Princess Anne.
Scope and Content
Deed Books, 1708-1773, of Princess Anne County Court. The deed books record the name of the grantor and grantee, the county of residence of both individuals, a description of property being sold or transferred. Deed Book No. 13, 1772-1773 also contains wills.
