The Westham research files contain information Easterly collected while writing a book he intended to publish. This series includes notes, originals and copies of published sources, clippings, correspondence, maps, and outlines and drafts of chapters. Topics include archaeology, land grants and early settlement in the area, prominent families, the James River and Kanawha Canal, churches, historic homes and other sites, foundries and quarries, and Civil War history, especially information on Dahlgren's raid. There is a substantial amount of information on Indians, including various tribes, settlements, petroglyphs, projectile points, and prehistoric artifacts. Much of this information on Indians was used in writing an article which was published in the June 1990 issue of the Quarterly Bulletin of the Archeological Society of Virginia.
