Biographical/Historical Information
The Thornrose Cemetery Company, located in Staunton, Virginia, was incoporated by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia and its charter was granted February 24, 1849.
Scope and Content Information
Records, 1850-1982, of the Thornrose Cemetery of Augusta County, Virginia. The collection is divided into three parts: Minutes; Death and internment records; and Indexes to death and internment records.
Misc. reel 889 incldes the minutes of the board of trustees, 1850-1972, which include the company's constitution and by-laws. Bond receipts and accounts for 1907-1921 follow the minutes. (Acc. 31514a)
Misc. Reel 889, Death and Interment records No. 1 and No. 2, 1850-1982, include name of person buried (or owner of slave), age, sex, race, profession, residence, interment number, birthplace, cause of death, and burial location. Names of parents and spouses are sometimes given. (Acc. 31514b)
Misc. Reel 890, is an Index to death and Interment records, No. 1 and No. 2, 1853-1982. (Acc. 31514c)
