Biographical/Historical Information

Patrick Henry was born 29 May 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia, to John and Sara Winston Henry. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and Virginia Convention, governor of Virginia 1776-1779, 1784- 1786, and delegate to the Virginia Constitution Ratification Convention, 1788. He was married to Sarah Shelton and Dorothea Dandridge. He died 6 June 1799 at his home on Red Hill Plantation, Charlotte County, Virginia.

Scope and Content Information

This accession consists of an original ledger (Accession 22408), a 13-page index (Accession 22408a) to another earlier ledger (Accession 20473), as well as two pages of the second section of Accession 22408 obtained at a later date (Accession 22408b). The first portion of this ledger consists mainly of legal fees, while the second portion includes expenses of a more personal nature. There is some genealogical information on Henry's family, as well as giving the residence of the debtors in the account book.
