Biographical/Historical Information
In 1892, land was purchased for the purpose of building a United Brethren in Christ Church in the Newtown section of Harrisonburg, Va. On 28 November 1892, the Reverend T. K. Clifford officially organized this African-American congregation.
Scope and Content Information
Records, 1892-1905, including a minute book, 12 November 1892-29 August 1904; financial records, 1892-1905, including accounts, receipts, expenses, and a subscription list dated 15 June 1902; minutes of a Quarterly Conference meeting, 16 June 1900. Also includes loose papers, consisting of clippings, minutes of meetings held on 27 June 1904 and 29 August 1904, financial statements, receipts, a list of board members, and a subscription list dated 15 June 1902. These records have been transcribed in History of Kelley Street United Brethren in Christ Church, Newtown, Harrisonburg, Virginia, 1892- 1906 , by Ruth M. Toliver, 1998.
