Biographical/Historical Information
William Pitkin served several roles within the government of the State of Connecticut including Judge for the Connecticut Superior Court, 1741; Chief Judge, 1742-54; Deputy Governor of Connecticut, 1754-66; and Governor, 1766-69.
Scope and Content
Letter from Pitkin to Governor Botetourt of Virginia in reply to an earlier letter from Botetourt to former Connecticut governor Fitch; Pitkin informs Botetourt he has replaced Fitch and congratulates him on his appointment as governor of Virginia. Hopes to concur with Botetourt on "measures for the good of America." Signed by Pitkin.
