Biographical/Historical Information

Alfred Leigh (1852-1918) graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1880 and began his practice in Colvin Run, Fairfax County, Virginia. He died during the influenza epidemic of 1918.

Scope and Content Information

The journals of Leigh's medical practice record the name of the patient, date of visits, nature of treatment, charges and entries for payments made. Includes notations on births and deaths. Accounts are with individuals from Georgetown and Washington, D.C. All volumes are indexed.

The journal for the period 188-1889 includes accounts of the estate of Alfred Leigh and an account of the sale of the deceased Leigh's personal property. The volume for 1893-1896 includes a resolution passed by the Fairfax County Medical Society regarding the death of Dr. B.F. Collins. A form for the certification of births taken from the records, signed by Hassell B. Leigh, Alfred Leigh's son, appears in the volume for 1903-1906.
